RJ Puno

My name is RJ "Rockadile" Puno aka Thrilla from Manila aka Rocktimus Prime. I am from Riverside California. I was Born in San Francisco raised in the Philippines and Southern California. Fascinated by dancing and music at the age of 3, I performed for my family in the living room what ever was popular at the time (Michael Jackson....etc). I was exposed to bboying at 11 when these kids were watching "Beat Street". I learned some basics such as footwork and swipes. I was obsessed with bboyin and it seemed like another faze for me. I would only do it occasionally at school dances then it really hit me and I got serious around 1997. I graduated Santiago High School in 2000 and at the same time Super Crew was born at Freestyle Session 6.

Here is a list of crews that I was a part of from 1997 until this day, in order....Looney Toones, Friendly Rage, Swing Kids, Da New Age, Battle Monkeys, Super Crew, Full Force. Ever since then I have been "a slave to the rhythm" - Kujo. I started to enter competitions and battling in cyphers with my crew earning credit in the game. At the time I was attending school at University of California Riversid) and Riverside Community College. I juggled both dancing and school for years. The dancing lead to traveling the world free of charge all because of bboyin. For years we've been in countless cities and competitions trying to earn money and respect. It had become more than just for fun. I took it to the next level with an agent so I can make a living off of what i love to do.Putting school on hold, I got some work in the industry to name a few: Sean Paul - Give It Up To Me music video, Meet The Spartans, a K-Swiss commercial, awards shows dancing for Fergie-Clumsy.

I found myself struggling with a choice to go back to school and finish because I was not getting any younger. I felt like I was running out of time and this is the turning point of my life.  I had to choose between living a normal life and a normal job with no risks and steady income, or pursue my dream since I was 3 which was to dance and entertain people.  I struggled with myself and making this choice for a couple years.  Every time I would try to go back to school or do something in the “Norm” I would get a call for another dancing opportunity that I could not pass up.

All of this lead to America’s Best Dance Crew.  We heard about the first season and we tried out but we got so close to making it was even filmed the part where they say “good job you guys made it!!!”, but no luck.  I watched as my friends the Jabbawockeez became champions, I was amazed by the fact that they were in the fore front and featured artist on the stage for America and the world to see.  As a dancer, we all know that we are always in the back trying to get shine behind the artist.  Seeing them successful made us want it more.  Soon after we heard about ABDC season two auditions, but at the moment I was ready to give up my dream and start my normal life with school/work.  Like me, my crew was skeptical because everyone had their own struggles and side projects.  We also thought about our style of dance which was bboying.  We didn’t do typical choreography and 5,6,7,8’s that people used to.  Would they give us credit or even understand what we were doing?  Dancing is dancing so we decided to give ABDC another shot but we had an agreement with each other that it was all or nothing.

All these years of hard work, struggle, and experience had to get us somewhere in this competition.  We knew if we won this competition everything that we have done until this point would be valid and we were bboying for a reason.  Three months of determination and hard work on the show led to us winning and becoming America’s Best Dance Crew Season Two Champions.  Now I’m sitting here on the tour bus with my crew, Super Cr3w and our boys, the Jabbawockeez, writing my bio for this website.  I have a message to everyone out there that has a dream.  Your dream does not exist unless you really want it and really believe it and really go for it.  Dreams can be made into reality its really up to you!  Reach for the Stars!
